Vastu Guidelines for guest bedrooms

Vastu Guidelines for guest bedrooms

“Dr. Sharma, I don’t know why the guests start bossing around in my house after staying for a few days” asked the wife of a Dubai based Indian businessman, who had invited me to check her beautiful villa in a posh residential area. Even before checking the house floor plan through my compass, I knew the reason instinctively. The guest bedroom was located in the area where the master bedroom should have been.

Lack of desired space in big cities is forcing us to work and adjust with whatever little available room. There is noting we can do much about it. But still we do get guests at times, which may be close relatives, friends or distant family members. Most of the time it’s the kids, who are asked to sleep on the couch to make room for the guests. These days many times guest also prefer to stay in nearby hotels or guest houses. Airbnb concept, which allows people to rent out their extra space at a reasonable amount, has also made life easy for both; guests as well hosts. In the good old days, for the middle class families, the ‘Baithak’ used to double up as guest sleeping area with a temporary bed. Later when affluent families, who got exposed to the western life style, introduced the idea of a separate guest bedroom in the house, slowly it became a important feature in middle class and upper middle class homes too.

The guest bedroom area should be little separated from the main family living area. This helps when the guest is not so close the host and the relationship is formal. At times the guests also need some privacy and want to be left alone. In such cases the separately defined guest area is more practical.

In case parents visit or come to stay for a longer period or stay with us, their bedroom may be planned in the south or southeast area.

For formal guests ideally West, North or North West area, which are Varuna, Soma or Vayvya zones, are ideal for planning guest bedrooms. Never plan guest bedrooms in South or Southwest direction, which is Yama or Nairitya zones, which are reserved for master bedroom. The bed should be placed in such a way that feet are not facing South/Southwest direction.

Vastu helps for sure

Vastu helps for sure

A few years ago, I visited the newly constructed home of a client in India. I walked around the house, things seemed fine but there was one room that had all the furniture facing the corners of the room and a lot of structural projections built in.

I promptly knew that the person living in that room would be facing a lot of problems with clarity of thought and focus. It was found that the client’s son was living in that room and since he had moved in, the kid was finding it difficult to concentrate and focus, especially on his studies.

Vastu Shastra is not based on some vague theory, but on calculations. Every structure or area is divided into 81 squares, each of which is analyzed based on the Earth’s magnetic field, direction and balance of five elements to check for blocks.

The latitude and longitude of the place is also taken into account. The sun rises from the east, so the flow of solar energy tends to be from east to west. So it is good if you face the direction of the rising sun while doing creative work, but the best direction is northeast. This is because the Earth’s magnetic field is between the North and the South Pole. The northeast combines the best of both the magnetic fields and the sun’s energy.

When people sleep it is best for the head to face southwest, so that northeastern energy flows through you even while sleeping. According to Vaastu Shastra, every structure has a head and heart. The northeastern part is the head, while the physical center is the heart.

“Both the head and heart should have clear space, and cluttering should be limited as much as possible. These are simple things that everybody can keep in mind.

Unqualified people spread misconceptions about Vastu

Unqualified practitioners of the 6,000-year-old Indian science of Vastu Shastra are leading to widespread misconceptions about Vastu Shastra, its true nature and purpose.

Vastu Shastra is one of the oldest sciences known to man. It was founded by the Indus Valley civilization and is essentially about balancing the five elements of nature around us– earth, water, fire, air and space or ether.

Earth is the land on which a structure is built, water is the water system used such as drinking water, washing source and sewage, fire is the furnace, cookers, stoves and source of electricity, air is the source of ventilation such as doors and windows and space is signified by the open areas inside a building.

Unfortunately Vastu Shastra can’t be learnt by reading a few books. It needs dedicated study for years followed by an even longer period of practice. Today there are people who read a couple of books, which are again mostly written by unqualified people, and are attempting to give Vastu consultations.

I have been actively practicing Vastu for the past 36 years and have a long list of highly satisfied clients in India and abroad. I mostly come across a big number of cases where Vastu practioners with little or no experience keep attempting to offer quick-fix solutions, leading to greater stress to the client. One of the several episodes of wrong advice includes the case of a wealthy businessman in Mumbai.

He had a round, beautiful mahogany table, which was extremely expensive. Some Vastu quack told him that it is bad to eat on a round table and he should buy a square table. This man was extremely distressed. Similarly, there was yet another Vastu quack who was giving out swastika stickers, which would reportedly help people. There are some people selling pyramids in the name of Vastu pyramids. In classical Vastu Shastra there is no mention of such misleading things.

All such stupid things give people the wrong idea about the science. Quite a few begin to assume that Vastu has religious connotations. And there are people who associate Vastu with black magic also. I helplessly feel that these misconceptions are devaluing a science that can help a lot of people in a positive manner.

Its very important for you to question those who give you advise on Vastu Shastra to find out that how long they have been practicing and from where they have learned the science.

Treating sick properties using Vastu

Treating sick properties using Vastu

Imagine a world cured of the ‘sick building syndrome’. Dream of a world where a home or office helps you to grow, prosper, and succeed. Think of a world where you are in perfect harmony with your environment. In every sense of the word.

This is the world envisaged by Vastu Shastra. The ancient Indian science of architecture, a manner and method of building that seeks balance energy fields and the five elements in an environment. Any environment.

You do not see or feel oxygen around you. But you know that it is there, allowing you to breathe and live. In the same way, you do not feel the Vastu energy fields around you. But its very much there, affecting you positively or negatively.

So how relevant is Vastu Shastra in different countries where people do not build houses or flats, but live in readymade accommodation? It is very much relevant and it can be made to work for you, if you are a believer. Vastu Shastra also suggests the way furniture, beds, dining tables can be placed and creatively suggests how rooms and corners can be best used, depending on the directions they face.

Everyone recognizes that there are ‘good’ and ‘bad’ houses or offices. There are houses, which bring good fortune, success and prosperity. There are offices, which do booming business. And there are also houses or offices, which spell misfortune and once you move into these structures, everything starts going wrong.

Vastu Shastra bases its laws on the energy fields. There are two main energy fields. Solar energy flows from east to west and magnetic energy flows from North to South. A Vastu master suggests ways a person can best benefit from this energy flow by increasing the positive energy and by blocking the negative energy.

The positive energy flowing in the right direction keeps the mind and body charged and active, allowing inhabitants to creatively work and productively plan to their maximum potential. If the negative energy flows more, it influences the mind negatively and make one taking wrong decisions leading to frustration, failures and even serious illness. Rightfully applied principals of Vastu Shastra increase positive energy and block negative energy.

I was invited to the apartment of a gold merchant in Dubai. I immediately felt the negative energy and diagnosed that his wife was not keeping well. This turned out to be absolutely true. Then suggested moving the furniture, especially the bed. I also put in some mirrors and gave them a Vastu Yantra, an energized copper plate with specific designs, which increased the right energy flow. After a few months, the gold merchant e-mailed me, informing that his wife was beginning to feel much better. When I revisited Dubai six months later, she came to see me with her husband. She was much healthier and brimming with radiant energy. ‘No other treatment had been undertaken during those months’, her husband told me.

This is only one of the thousands of cases I dealt with all around the world. I have also participated in various talk shows and have written about the scientific validity of Vastu Shastra in many newspapers and magazines.

Vastu Shastra and Omens

Vastu Shastra and Omens

It was hot and humid in Houston Texas USA and my client, a sober humble gentleman of 50, was effortlessly steering the golf cart around his huge warehouse through the large pile of heavy castings and giant manhole covers. While his elegant wife was quietly sitting in the back seat, I was sitting next to him curiously asking questions while inspecting all the property lines, boundaries, structures and large buildings. At one point I felt a bizarre sort of discomfort driving around the back of the property. I requested my client to stop the vehicle. We both came out. Holding the compass in my hand, I started mentally calculating nine Vastu zones, sixty four Vastu deity zones, eighty one Vastu energy zones, eight Vastu directions and connecting them to twelve zodiac signs, nine planets and twenty seven nakshatras. We both stood facing each other and then suddenly out of nowhere a bird fell between us, fluttered for a minute and died.
We both looked at each other with a blank and clueless expression. While he and his wife were still recovering from this sudden and unexpected event, I once again thanked the divine Vastu Purusha Energy, which is the primary Vastu Shastra deity, regularly worshipped by all pandits in the Vastu pooja for a property or on all auspicious occasions. The Vastu Purusha has again very kindly given me a clear hint and clue about the major Vastu flaw in that industrial warehouse.

As I turned around to study all the Vastu dynamics in that area I found a big door towards the rear of the warehouse, between the Yama and Nairitya Vastu zones of the eighty one Vastu energy zones.
The story of the business and growth on that property had mixed fortunes. Sometimes going up and other times being pulled down and cheated by close confidents. The stability, consistency and sustainable growth were missing all together. The most recent development was an unexpected treachery and showdown by a close associate, trying to bifurcate and create his own business. This was sort of a final nail in the fortunes of the company.

My Vastu visit was scheduled as an effort to salvage the image of the company and save it from an eminent closure.

Of course as the Divine Vastu Purusha had clearly indicated the large door at the back of the property had to be closed. Many more Vastu changes were suggested including a imposing fountain close to the entrance, which initially made no sense to my client but was later acknowledged with glee to be growing as a favourite lunching hotspot with the workers.

Six months later there was no talk of closure but expansions and expansions. Today their number of warehouses across all the states of America can’t be count on fingers. The company keeps growing with a large production unit in China and another coming in Oklahoma.

I again humbly bow to and thank the divine Vastu Purusha energy for helping me assist my clients by showing the right path at the right time.

Vastu Shastra Story of a Jinxed House

Vastu Shastra Story of a Jinxed House

With a breathtaking view of the river flowing not very far from the property line, this house in Cologne in Germany was very beautiful and tastefully done. My client a tall middle aged German, whose son had a strong interest in Ayurveda and Vedic Astrology, had suggested him to contact me. They had purchased this house a year back and were not feeling very happy since the family moved in.

It was a two storied house with a beautiful lawn in the front and patio with river view in the back. I toured the whole property first from the outside and later from inside, holding compass and working on my charts consisting 9 Vastu zones, 64 Vastu deity zones and 81 Vastu energy zones, 12 signs, nine planets and 27 nakshatras (stars). My Vastu findings were worrisome and scary. This house had story of death, imprisonment and accidents. To my surprise my client was completely unaware of such events in the past concerning this beautiful and picturesque house. He purchased it for its location, view and beauty. He even had no idea about Vastu doshas or Vastu Shastra. It was only his son, who was exposed to Vedic knowledge, alternate healing system, metaphysical sciences and suggested him to consult me, when the weird feelings and uneasiness kept growing every day.

Generally because of meditating every day and doing my special Vastu deity prayers, I never get affected by the negative energies, prevailing in a property, but this house exhausted me and drained my energy when I retuned to my hotel room. Same evening working later on different plans and property maps I prepared my Vastu appraisal report and handed over them to my client next morning.

My findings were; Ever since this house has been built :: a) Residents have not prospered here. B) There may have been accidents and people dying young. C) Some people living here may have even served long term in jail. d) A suicide may also have taken place.

My client, a highly educated man with scientific bend of mind and strong rational, was horrified to see my Vastu appraisal report. But I was not doing any verbal blah blah. I wrote everything and mailed him so that he can verify my findings. My Vastu suggestions were also not very convenient for him and did not make any sense to him. I suggested him to close the most beautiful swimming pool, fill the wine cellar with concrete, create an altar in the living area, move his sleeping space to a smaller room besides making several other Vastu related recommendations.

From his body language I could make out that he was not happy with the decision to invite me for Vastu appraisal, as this whole thing did not make any sense to him. I am sure that in my absence he may have had a spat with his son too for suggesting him such rubbish. The rest of the story came from his son 10 days later.

Out of curiosity he decided to investigate my “weird claims”. No race in the world can equal Germans in precise record keeping. When I do Vedic astrology charts, I can blindly work with German birth data, as they are always precise to the seconds. This I can not confidently do in other countries and cultures. In some countries and cultures every body’s birth is always on the hour or 15, 30 and 45 minutes past the hour. There is no way that anyone may have been born at 11, 27, 38 or 55 minutes past the hour.

I got a mail from his son 10 days later while I was still in Europe. His father had found that the first owner of the house was waylaid and killed by a gang of drunken thugs, while he was steering his car through a narrow lane in not so nice district of the city. His widow sold the house to doctor. This man met an accident the same year and fractured his both legs while his wife became serious alcoholic. Third owner was a very successful entrepreneur before he moved in this house. After seven months of being in this house serious discrepancies for storing some illegal material were found in his business and he landed in jail for 3 years. Meanwhile his wife got so depressed with this unexpected turn of good fortunes that she committed suicide. He came out of the jail and two years later sold this house to my client.

Two years later I was again in the area for another Vastu project. My client came to know about my visit and invited me home for lunch next day. To my satisfaction my all Vastu recommendations had been implemented. The swimming pool was replaced by a beautiful rock garden. The wine cellar was buried under a beautiful Persian rug. He was happy sleeping in the smaller but not really small bedroom. He was happy, jovial, and cracking jokes in German, which his son was translating in English for me. His thanked me for my Vastu work as he felt much better and confident after implementing all the Vastu changes, I had suggested. And I again thanked the great Vastu Purusha energy for his divine blessings to help me assist my clients.

Vastu and a 'Ghost-Ridden' house

Vastu and a ‘Ghost-Ridden’ house

Standing at the front door of the beautiful town house in the posh North Seattle neighborhood in USA, I was admiring the beautiful two-storied house, which my client, a very well known Vedic Astrologer of USA, has recently purchased and moved in. He got re-married to a very elegant woman two months back and needed bigger space as he already had two teenage daughters from the first marriage. We had known each other since long. I had been regularly teaching at his Vedic Astrology center in Seattle since 1994. He was one of the very few enthusiastic white Americans doing western Astrology, who had converted to Vedic astrology in those years.

“I don’t know why my daughters are so scared ever since we moved in this house. They feel as if someone is moving in the house and come screaming right into my bedroom in the middle of the night”, he told me in a shaken voice. I need your help to assure my daughters that everything is fine here.

Two chubby girls in their early teens were looking at me with a nervous smile and anxious face. I knew the wonderful kids since their childhood and always felt fatherly affection for them, as my daughter too was their age. During my frequent foreign travel itinerates, I had very little chance to spend time with my daughter therefore I always felt connected in some way to the girls of her age during my absence from India.

Same evening in my hotel room I sat to work on my Vastu analysis and the serious Vastu flaws I had observed during my visit to the elegant home of my client, I had visited earlier in the day. Working on the 9 Vastu zones, 8 directions & Brahm Sthana, 64 Vastu deity zones and 81 Vastu energy zones I found a different kind of story emerging. This house was good for growth, success and prosperity but not good for the kids because of giant tree in the close proximity of the building in bad direction. I called my client and shared my observations. For a few moments he was silent on the other end of the telephone line.

“But Dr. Sharma do you mean to say that other families, who owned and stayed in this house before we bought it, had their kids suffering similar issues”, he finally asked. I was certain of my Vastu findings and told him that yes this was possible.

“Well ! As far as I know there was no such issue with the family who lived here immediately before us”, he again commented but not in too sure voice tone.

“How sure you are about your information about that family? Can you please specifically confirm again for my academic interest ?” I was forceful this time.

“Well ! Now it’s too late. I have to call the realtor (property dealer) tomorrow to find out the story since you are insisting. As far as I am concerned I am pretty sure that the family before us never had such a issue”, he again told me in a subdued voice and hung up.

Next morning I again visited the property and suggested important Vastu changes including taking off the big tree, which anyway was very threatening to the safety of the building. Same evening I had a flight back to San Francisco, where I used to live. It took my client almost a week to find out the story. It was Sunday evening and I was about to step out for dinner with a few friends when he called and narrated the following story in a fearful and worried voice.

The family, who lived before in the house, was the one who got that house constructed twenty years back. They had only one child, a son, who was born three years later. This child grew up to be physically hyperactive and mentally very aggressive. When the son was 12, they consulted different psychiatrists, gave him many medicines and finally when nothing worked, they started isolating him by confining him in a locked room. Later when the problem got even worse, unwillingly they started chaining him too.

My client was shocked. He never expected such a horrible story to emerge. Now he was worried about his daughters that how they are going to be in that house. I reassured him and requested him to implement all the Vastu changes at earliest and do prayers regularly with his family.

Three months later when I again visited Seattle for another assignment, my client invited me for dinner at his house. To my joy I found that the energy in the house has completely shifted to become positive. The girls this time smiled with happiness and confidence when they told me that now there was ‘no one’ in the house and they sleep very well and have no fear of any sort.

The whole joyful conversation on that beautiful evening with a very wonderful family brought me happiness. I once again bowed to the divinity for the blessings of such divine moments.

Of Last three months travels

A few days back I returned from a 3 months tour from USA and Mexico. This was my second trip to the US in the last six months. This trip too was quite intense. The clients were really very kind and helpful. Santa Fe and Albuquerque were quite educational as I attended a two week long NLP seminar, met my very dear friends Ana and Christian, who hosted me in their beautiful home. Met my old and very valuable friend Dr David Frawley (David was awarded with Padma Bhushan by president of India last years) and his most wonderful wife Shambhavi. The joy of meeting Kristina Flanagan, whom I first time met in 1995 for a Vastu project, was huge. My wife and daughter love her very beautiful, kind and generous spirit.

Subsequently 3 week long stay in Florida between Orlando, Tampa and Daytona was quite taxing as well fun. My client there is planning to start a chain of Spas, blending the best of many healing traditions in the world. I had to run a Vastu Shastra scan through 15 different properties and select the best three on Vastu parameters. To do a thorough comparison of sites on the basis of Vastu Shastra principles and choose the best possible available option is quite a serious job and need experience with thorough professional approach. Thank God ! when I left I and my client were able to reach a definite and fruitful conclusion.

Mexico was fun. Weather was excellent in Mexico City and all other places I visited with my Ukrainian client. He plans to buy two new hotels in Mexico as he expect Mexico to grow big as a touristic destination in the coming years. The Ukrainian client I work with is now a very good friend too. We both share many intellectual and spiritual interests. He is a very good company as he also likes to travel to new places, taste different street foods and I s least conscious of his being very rich. I did select one property for him, which I am sure would grow very successful for his ventures. The other ones were not as lucrative from Vastu perspective.

After an intermission of four days, the last project was an Industrial project in Oklahoma. The client, a very kind, humble and wonderful gentleman is known to me since 1994, when I visited to do his first commercial venture in Houston TX (USA). It took me two weeks to complete the whole project, which has many serious Vastu flaws including many important Vastu energy zones (of 81 Vastu energy zones) missing. Also many crucial Vastu deity zones (of 64 Vastu deity zones) were missing. This production unit, which my client recently bought on impulse without consulting me, has been going through serious challenges ever since it has been commissioned. One day before my departure from the US, I did my Vastu presentation in details with all my observations to the board members.

Now back home in Delhi until the next sojourn.

An interesting Vastu story

The car was speeding on the freeway. We were four persons returning from the site of a production unit, which my client has intention to purchase soon in view of the changing US policy against imports from China, to give boost to home production. We were in Texas and were returning back to Houston. My primary impression, after a superficial and cursory Vastu Shastra analysis of this production unit was quite opposite to what my client wanted to hear.

“But Dr. Sharma the company balance sheets and other bank documents, which they have submitted with us, are showing consistent growth of the business and profits”, quipped on of the directors of the company, who was with us and was on the driving wheel. “ Your Vastu impression does not match the observations, our appraisal team is conveying us” he further added.

Soon we stopped at a gas station for refreshments. Sipping coffee, the MD of the company fixed his gaze on my face. “So Dr. Sharma you think that this unit can not make money and is suffering losses” saying this he looked into my eyes to notice any waver in my Vastu analytical confidence.

Without blinking I once again repeated what I said and further added, “Well ! This is really premature still for me to give a conclusive Vastu Shastra verdict on this unit as I have to study everything in details. I need minimum 3 to 4 days to revert with detailed Vastu appraisal report analyzing everything thoroughly. So please wait to hear from me. Since you were curious about my primary observation, I just gave you a very superficial brief.”

Three days later I mailed all of them my detailed Vastu observations, which were not in favour of that industrial unit. I concluded by suggesting not to proceed further with the negotiations to purchase as in my Vastu analysis opinion that unit was incurring heavy losses and all the façade they were projecting was sham. I further suggested them to consult another industrial appraisal team and appoint an independent CPA (Chartered Accountant) to get a second opinion about the balance sheets and sales projections.

Ten days later my client called me excitedly. He told me that everything I wrote in my Vastu appraisal report about that production unit was true. All the balance sheets, accounts were manipulated. All the sales figures were false projection. This company was desperate to sell the unit and they created a big scam with the help of some mischievous accountants to project completely false façade of the company.
